SSL Certificates
Do you have data that needs to be encrypted? Are you looking to setup an e-commerce website? Then you should highly consider acquiring an SSL certificate. By default, your shared hosting website is SSL-Enabled, meaning you can put a https in front of the URL. Your website will use our default server certificate, which is self-issued. This is fine if you just want to put a private web-application behind SSL. However, if you are looking to sell goods and services over the internet, you need to purchase your own SSL certificate. Having an SSL certificate, which enables https on your website without showing warnings to your users, can provide a great deal of confidence in your brand. While you can technically sell products on your website without SSL, this is strictly prohibited by credit card companies (Visa, MasterCard, etc). Not only is it prohibited, but you are passing around your customer's credit card info along with other private data, in plain text that can be intercepted by a third party.
We offer several different SSL Certificates, at different price levels. Our basic certificate is all you need to run your website via the https protocol and not display warnings to your customers. This certificate uses domain-based validation, which means an email is sent to an email address on your domain (ie: billing@yourdomain.com) to verify you own the website. Our most advanced certificate requires more documentation, but allows you to display seals on your site that visually confirm your identity to your customers and also turns the address bar in newer browsers green.
